Tinkering with Bearblog

After signing up for bearblog in June, I've finally taken the time to set things up properly, so they're in place when I need to dump more than just a few thoughts into Mastodon.

I was thinking of talking about former spaces on the internet where I used to talk about my daily life, but that will likely be another post in the future. Small steps. Not every blog post needs to contain a bunch of information. They're way easier to read when they're prepared and served like little snacks anyway.

For today though, I will take the time to thank a few people for helping me tweak the beautifully minimalistic design of bearblog.

First of all I want to thank another team that works on a different blogging platform and a few other projects: Good Enough. Thank you for creating Letterbird, which I set up quite a while ago as a contact form for stream-related questions. Thanks to their easy embed script I was able to set it up for my blog here as well: Contact.

What bothered me though was that bearblog automatically adds a 'toasting' button underneath every page. I didn't want it showing up on the contact page since that looked silly. Thanks to Sal who provided a little snippet of CSS and ReedyBear's hint that you can add an individual styles block to pages, I was able to hide it completely.

Of course, I had already stumbled upon ReedyBear's bearblog just minutes before, to see if you could add a custom image as your toast button. And yes, you can. I'm using one of my sub badges from Twitch that I commissioned from guiseppe almost 3 years ago. Whoosh, time really flies!

I also couldn't wait to add Hairic Lilred's Human Made pixel icons to my brand new blog. They are absolutely gorgeous and fit the vibe I'm going for perfectly.

Now that the groundwork is done, I can finally journal away! Surely, I will move things around and tinker away at the blog bit by bit, but I'm very happy I've taken the time to set things in motion today.
